The difference between reverse extrusion technology and forward extrusion technology

The difference between reverse extrusion technology and forward extrusion technology is as follows:

  1. Material Flow Direction:

    • Reverse Extrusion: The material flows in the opposite direction of the die cavity.

    • Forward Extrusion: The material flows in the same direction as the die cavity.

  2. Stress Distribution:

    • Reverse Extrusion: The maximum stress occurs at the top of the billet, near the die entry.

    • Forward Extrusion: The maximum stress occurs at the bottom of the billet, near the die exit.

  3. Deformation Characteristics:

    • Reverse Extrusion: The material is compressed and pushed upward, forming raised features or cavities.

    • Forward Extrusion: The material is elongated and pushed forward, creating elongated shapes like rods or tubes.

In reverse extrusion, the metal billet is placed at the bottom of the die and extruded upward through the die hole, while in forward extrusion, the metal billet is pushed through the die from one end to the other. These differences in material flow and stress distribution lead to distinct deformation behaviors and product characteristics.
